Additional Information:
At the age of eighteen, Audrey Hepburn was thrilled to be acting in a motion picture and to be paid fifty guilders for doing so. Understandably, director Charles van der Linden would proudly claim that it was he and not the British or Hollywood filmmakers, who had actually "discovered" Audrey Hepburn!

This is Marina de Graaf's first film and she was 17 when this movie was shot.

Storyline:
Hazel Grace Lancaster (Shailene Woodley), a 16-year-old cancer patient, meets and falls in love with Gus Waters (Ansel Elgort), a similarly afflicted teen from her cancer support group. Hazel feels that Gus really understands her. They both share the same acerbic wit and a love of books, especially Grace's touchstone, "An Imperial Affliction" by Peter van Houten. When Gus scores an invitation to meet the reclusive author, he and Hazel embark on the adventure of their brief lives.

Additional information:
Author John Green based the character Hazel on a young girl named Esther Earl who was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. Green met her during a Harry Potter convention in 2009 noticing her carrying an oxygen tank. He came to like her because of some of the videos she put up on YouTube as well as her humor and openness. From the time they met to het death at the age of 16 in 2010, Green and Earl would exchange correspondence.
